Chef’s Table, Francis Mallmann
While in class on April 6, 2017 me and my classmates watched a Netfilx film called Chef’s Table. Here I will be answering the questions below: · Question #1: How does this episode fit into the narrative mode? When the film opens, it shows a scene with a beautiful horizon of multiple colors. It has someone telling about his life story and letting the audience know about his prize moments in life and his bad decisions he made. Mallman had come in a couple of scenes to introduce topics of his life moments also. The format of this movie was created wonderful because at the end he is in the background walking away with fire in the background with the horizon. It had a great message for a lot of individuals. · Question #2: How does Mallman's story connect to the hiraeth story you are writing in this class? Consider his discussions about home and childhood. While Mallman’s was telling his story, I felt like it wasn’t so many connections that I could relate to from my Hiraeth project. The main thing he was talking about was his childhood and what made him the man who he is today. This film gave me understanding that I could give my hiraeth project a twist towards what I’m talking about because I feel like I’m playing it safe where I can give more information about my grandmother and the great memories also letting my audience know about a powerful impact she made on me as a young lady growing up today in this generation. Question #3: What major ideas/themes from this episode connect to ideas/themes from our composition course? Consider Mallmann's argument about composing a good dish, examining his life environments, and being productive. When Mallman won the prize for his potatoes he felt like he accomplished his life achievement that all his teachers had won so he thought his achievements couldn’t go any further he had a fixed mindset. Later on, Mallmann goes down his own path by making his own decisions and living care free which made him start to have a growth mindset to conquer anything he desired. This relates to our composition course where we talked about fixed vs growth mindset.
